Rules

This competition is AHA sanctioned and open to any amateur homebrewer age 21 or older. Initially the entry limit will be 5 per brewer, with a maximum competition entry limit of 100. After 5/12/2024 that limit may be raised based on volunteer and entrant participation.
Update 5/13/2024 - Unfortunatly, we will not be increasing the entry limit at this time. We are still in the process of recruting judges and volunteers and don't feel that we could accomodate more entries.

No entries using Cannabis / Hemp are allowed or accepted. Any entries using these components will be disqualified, will not be returned, and will not receive feedback.

All mailed entries must be received at the mailing location by the shipping deadline - please allow for shipping time.

All entries will be picked up from drop-off locations the day after the drop-off deadline.

This competition is open to all 2021 BJCP Style Guideline styles, except Mead and Cider. There is also a special category, "What Would Saint Arnold Brew?". Some styles require additional information to be fairly judged. Please check the style guidelines and include where applicable.

There will be two Best of Show categories, one for all styles, and one for the "What would Saint Arnold Brew". Please refer to https://brewbrosco.com/feast-of-saint-arnold-homebrew-competition/ for explanation and examples.

All entrants to the “What Would Saint Arnold Brew” category should select that category, and provide a narrative answering the following questions regarding their entry along with their submission (Attach to bottle with entry label and / or ):

  • Base style - This is what we made and why.
  • Any ingredients/additives - What ingredients did you choose and why?
  • Why would St. Arnold have brewed this beer? (Historical or Fictional narratives are accepted).

All entries must be handcrafted products, containing ingredients available to the general public, and made using private equipment by hobbyist brewers (i.e., no use of commercial facilities or Brew on Premises operations, supplies, etc.).

The competition organizers are not responsible for mis-categorized entries, mailed entries that are not received by the entry deadline, or entries that arrived damaged.

The competition organizers reserve the right to combine styles for judging and to restructure awards as needed depending upon the quantity and quality of entries.

Qualified judging of all entries is the primary goal of our event. Judges will evaluate and score each entry. The average of the scores will rank each entry in its category. Each flight will have at least one BJCP judge.

Brewers are not limited to one entry in each category but may only enter each subcategory once.

The competition committee reserves the right to combine overall style categories based on number of entries. All possible effort will be made to combine similar styles. All brews in combined categories will be judged according to the style they were originally entered in.

The Best of Show judging will be determined by a Best of Show panel based on a second judging of the top winners.

Bottles will not be returned to entrants.

The following bonuses are still being confirmed, but we expect that:

  • All entrants get $5 off their ticket to the Feast of Saint Arnold Festival on 6/8/2024.
  • Top 3 entries in each Best of Show (Standard and What would Saint Arnold Brew) category receive a medal custom made for this competition, and a free companion ticket to the Festival on June 8th, 2024.
  • All entrants and volunteers get guaranteed entry into the festival even if the gates are closed.
